The duration of the contract is 4 months initially.

The location of the role is Paddington, London (hybrid working).

The pay rate on offer is £500 - £550 per day.

The client is a multinational high street retailer.

Summary

The client are going through a large transformation, with the objective to restore the business and brand, to deliver long-term, sustainable, profitable growth for our investors, colleagues, and wider communities.

You will be the day-to-day contact within the Food or C&H business units helping deliver against the Group Controls strategy and provide the advice necessary to support the Food/C&H business unit (first line of defence) in identifying, managing and monitoring controls. This role requires good leadership and communication skills to discuss process and controls with senior finance and non-finance stakeholders, supporting consistency and compliance across the function.

Key accountabilities of the role

  • Leading key projects that drive business unit level control and process improvement across commercial, supply chain, operations, and finance
  • Support risk & fraud management across all areas of Food/C&H Finance to identify and assess key risks and drive forwards mitigation plans
  • Provide controls and process expertise at the business unit level e.g. to support new business, integration of acquisitions and process change
  • Constantly challenging existing processes and ways of working and identify areas for improvement
  • Oversee the support provided by the business' Food/C&H teams to Internal and External Audit to efficiently plan and execute audits following through with closure of audit findings where necessary; liaising closely with internal audit
  • Responsibility for tracking of open Internal audit and Group Change & Control actions in a timely manner
  • Working with the GSCOP Code Compliance Officer to enhance the compliance monitoring programme across all relevant business areas (relevant specifically to Food BU)
  • Facilitate risk management across all areas of Food/C&H Finance to identify and assess key risks and drive forward mitigation plans, reporting into the Business Unit Board, where appropriate
  • Responsible for the monthly risk, control and governance meeting with the FD for Food/C&H and Heads of Finance in the Food/C&H Group
  • Reporting into the Audit Committee annually on risk, compliance and the control environment; and any ad hoc reporting where required
  • Leading BU operational reviews on the control environment where required
  • Provide ad hoc/project support for delivery of the Group controls strategy and BU projects

Key skills and experience

  • Qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA)
  • Strong experience in an audit / risk / compliance / strategy function of a large international company or Big 4 in the area of governance, risk management and internal audit
  • Ability to lead the implementation of new ways of working and drive change
  • Strong programme management skills
  • Proven record of successfully leading the design and implementation of risk management and internal controls; excellent knowledge and understanding of best-practice frameworks for risk and controls, assisting teams with assessment and improvement of their risk management processes and program
  • Strong organisation skills and ability to coordinate across multiple stakeholders
  • Confidence in challenging senior stakeholders and existing ways of working and holding stakeholders accountable for compliance and action plan delivery
  • Influencing and leadership skills: proven experience of building, developing and sustaining relationships with key stakeholders at all levels
  • Excellent analytical skills
  • Structured and logical problem solver; ability to communicate effectively at all levels, written and verbal. Ability to provide risk reporting tailored to the audience
  • Self-starter who possesses the ability and drive to operate independently; high energy level, intellectual curiosity and strong work ethic with a commitment to continuous improvement in a dynamic and changing environment
  • Experience within Food or Clothing retail would be highly desirable but not essential
