About the Role

We are looking to recruit a Buyer to work as part of a large procurement function that supports the delivery of projects at Rosyth Dockyard.

The Buyer will have responsibility for undertaking specific procurement activities for a range of equipment, goods and services. This will involve new and existing suppliers and will involve sourcing, tendering, contracting and supplier management to ensure all is sourced in a timely, cost effective and professional manner to meet schedules and customer demand.
This particular role will focus on facilities management related categories such as maintenance, repair, security, catering, cleaning, services and other related indirect category spend.

The portfolio of work packages will range in value, complexity and many will be of significant importance to the business.

Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities:

  • Execution of order book management and expediting processes to ensure the supply chain delivers on time to meet all Business Unit requirements
  • Execution of supplier due diligence / on-boarding and qualification processes to ensure selected suppliers are approved and available to trade with
  • Ensuring that Babcock's commercial position is best protected through use of agreed terms and conditions of contract and purchase orders
  • Ensuring Company MRP system is fully maintained with accurate data; data which in turn feeds and influences functional metrics
  • Supporting monthly budget reconciliations and supplier payment milestone plans
  • Leading and/or supporting the process for tendering of work by suppliers; ensure tender documents are prepared, issued and subsequent submissions are handled professionally. Returns analysed with evaluations undertaken orchestrating input from key and relevant functional disciplines. Pursue opportunities, presenting options and recommendations as appropriate
  • Leading and/or supporting negotiations with suppliers to ensure that the most effective supply solutions are obtained
  • Sourcing within existing supply agreements defined by Project Procurement and Category Management teams
  • Prompt and effective provision of spot purchasing and quotation services
  • Maintaining master-data
  • Ensure a programme of supplier reviews is carried out (as applicable), such that suppliers and supplier performance is monitored and managed
  • Monitoring existing and new contracts/suppliers that are identified as high risk/critical to ensure any KPI's established as part of the contract are met and undertake corrective action if necessary
  • Work with peers and colleagues within the business to identify new opportunities and/or areas for improvement/innovation with existing contracts
  • Realising identified savings and management of benefits
  • Monitoring instances of non-routine, non-compliant / no available Contract to identify opportunities to decrease non-contract spend; driving more efficient processes, contracts, etc… Offer solutions, recommendations and taking action to implement as appropriate



What do I need to do the role?

  • Experience in core procurement activities - sourcing, tendering, contract drafting and supplier management
  • Procurement experience in Facilities / Site Maintenance Activities is advantageous
  • Experience in core procurement activities - sourcing, tendering, contract drafting and supplier management
  • IT skills (Microsoft Office package - PowerPoint, Word, Excel. SAP or similar MR system)
  • MCIPS or studying towards MCIPS or equivalent professional qualifications is advantageous
  • Strong communication and networking skills with the ability to influence and engage stakeholders at all levels
  • Ability to work as part of a team
  • Capable of handling multiple tasks simultaneously and working in a fast paced environment
